Editorial: Engagement Shoots
And Why I keep Going on About Them...
Those who know me outside of my photography may just assume all I ever do are engagement or pre-wedding shoots.
When at a BBQ recently I was asked what I'd been up to and I caught myself saying something that was sounding familier, that I've just been on a a great engagement shoot or I'm finished editing one.
"I must sound like a broken record"
I must sound like a broken record: My entusiasm never waivers however when asked whether or not I really think they are worth it. I often get "aren't they just a fad?".
I shake my head, smile and reply that they make perfect sense!
"They get a wonderful set of photographs at a beautiful location..."
When I go on to explain that from the couples point of view: "Not only do they get to see how I work, they get a wonderful set of photographs at a beautiful location (often of their choosing) before their wedding day to show family and friends. They know what to expect". "It's also a great opportunity for me to get to know the couple better and get to know what makes them comfortable whilst in front of a camera!".
"I get a lot of positive (and sometimes surprised) feedback from couples..."
One thing that always impresses me on wedding days, is how grooms are often naturally putting themselves into stances or remembering hand positions from the engagement shoot. Nice one chaps!
I get a lot of positive (and sometimes surprised) feedback from couples who have just had their engagement shoot and were nervous or unsure about how it would be before-hand.
To be honest I've only ever had positive responses from the engagement shoots I've done and I really enjoy getting to know the couples more and spending a lovely few hours out doing what I love with great people :).
